Medicare Supplement Plans (Medigap Plans) cover certain out-of-pocket expenses that Original Medicare (Part A and B) doesn’t. Overall, there are 10 Medicare Supplement plans commonly available across the United States.

To help your clients choose the right Medigap plan, you need to understand all the Medigap options (A, B, C, D, F, G, K, L, M, N) and what they cover.

Here is what agents need to know:

Medigap Coverage

Medigap Plan A covers:
• Medicare Part A coinsurance payments
• Medicare Part B copayment or coinsurance
• First three pints of blood used in a transfusion
• Part A hospice care coinsurance or copayment

Medigap Plan B covers:
• Medicare Part A coinsurance payments
• Medicare Part B copayment or coinsurance
• First three pints of blood used in a transfusion
• Part A hospice care coinsurance or copayment
• Part A deductible

Medigap Plan C covers:
• Medicare Part A coinsurance payments
• Medicare Part B copayment or coinsurance
• First three pints of blood used in a transfusion
• Part A hospice care coinsurance or copayment
• Your Medicare Part A deductible
• Skilled nursing facility care
• Your Part B deductible
• 80% of foreign travel emergency medical care costs

*Plan C is no longer available to anyone who became eligible for Medicare before January 1, 2020.

Medigap Plan D covers:
• Medicare Part A coinsurance payments
• Medicare Part B copayment or coinsurance
• First three pints of blood used in a transfusion
• Part A hospice care coinsurance or copayment
• Skilled nursing facility care
• Your Part A deductible
• 80% of foreign travel emergency medical care costs

Medigap Plan F covers:
• Medicare Part A coinsurance payments and hospital costs
• Medicare Part B copayment or coinsurance
• First three pints of blood used in a transfusion
• Part A hospice care coinsurance or copayment
• Skilled nursing facility care coinsurance
• Medicare Part A deductible
• Medicare Part B deductible
• Medicare Part B excess charge
• 80% of foreign travel emergency medical care costs

Medigap Plan K covers:
• Medicare Part B copayment or coinsurance
• First three pints of blood used in a transfusion
• Part A hospice care coinsurance or copayment
• Skilled nursing facility care
• Part A deductible

Medigap Plan L covers:
• Medicare Part B copayment or coinsurance
• First three pints of blood used in a transfusion
• Part A hospice care coinsurance or copayment
• Skilled nursing facility care
• Part A deductible

Medigap Plan M covers:
• Medicare Part A coinsurance payments
• Medicare Part B copayment or coinsurance
• First three pints of blood used in a transfusion
• Part A hospice care coinsurance or copayment
• Skilled nursing facility care
• 80% of foreign travel emergency medical care costs

Medigap Plan N covers:
• Medicare Part A coinsurance payments and hospital costs
• Medicare Part B copayment or coinsurance (exceptions include: a copayment of up to $20 for some office visits and up to a $50 copayment for ER visits)
• First three pints of blood used in a transfusion
• Part A hospice care coinsurance or copayment
• Skilled nursing facility care coinsurance
• Medicare Part A deductible
• 80% of foreign travel emergency medical care costs
